The US Department of State has issued a travel alert for “difficulties related to travel in the flood-affected areas of the central and lower parts of northern Thailand, including Bangkok.” Trip cancellation insurance can help you recover your pre-paid costs if you have to cancel your trip due to a natural disaster. With trip cancellation insurance you can book a vacation without worrying about losing your deposits.
Severe flooding in Thailand has created serious problems for transportation and destroyed access to essential services. The US Department of State consequently advises against all but essential travel to the affected areas of Thailand – central and lower parts of northern Thailand including metropolitan Bangkok and 20 additional provinces (see the US Department of State website for details).
The alert only extends to those areas listed. The tourist areas like Phuket and Chiang Mai remain largely unaffected by the current floods. The international airport is operating as normal.
Strong seasonal storms and very heavy rainfall have combined to create these extensive floods. Many people have lost their lives due to the rising waters and there are shortages of bottled water and some food items.
